    Unhappy Emissions failed EGR valve?

Anyone ever cleaned or replaced their EGR valve? I failed my emissions and can't get a stupid GA tag until I pass. I passed every test with flying colors, except for the NOx ppm test. On the 25/25 test, it ran 1835 and allows 945. On the 50/15 test, it ran 1893 and allows 1045. The guy at the place said he wasn't a mechanic, but it's usually the EGR valve or cat from what he's been told. My friend said if I just try to clean my EGR valve I might be able to pass. Anyone know anything about this Nox reading or how to fix it? I greatly appreciate any help!!!!!!!!!

when i didnt pass NOx for emissions test, i cleaned out the EGR ports. The ports were clogged with dirt, think there were 4 holes to clean out. I also used Seafoam, which some i let get sucked in thru the pcv valve and some i poured into the gas tank. I then passed emissions.

some stuff from the past that ive bookmarked:

OK, so I cleaned out my EGR port last night, and it was pretty clogged up... I was all happy to get my emissions tested today when I smelled fuel leaking from the fuel rail area. I didn't replace my o rings and wonder if thats what it's from. It also smells like there's gas coming from the exhaust. FML Idk what to do :(

i didnt replace the fuel injector o-rings nor egr port gasket either. i didnt smell any gas fumes, after i had cleaned out the ports ~5 years ago. Within the last 2 years i actually do smell gas fumes after i start my car. im thinkin ill go ahead and replace those o-rings and gasket this time around.

is there any kind of sealant I can put around the gasket to make it seal better? I'm afraid I messed up the seal when I was scraping the carbon out with a screwdriver. I'm going to replace the orings tonight and hope that fixes the leak. This sucks... how long does it take to get the gas smell out of the exhaust (assuming I fix the leak) ?

Sorry for the delay. There was a bad o-ring, so I replaced all of them, and everything works now. And the better news, I PASSED my emissions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I lowered my noxppm number by over 1000 by cleaning the EGR ports and gasket. The emissions guy said my numbers got better as the car ran longer during the tests, so not really sure why that would be. I fear I may not pass again in a year, but hopefully I'll have a newer car by then :D Looking at an 04 TL now.
