Ok i dont know to much about how to get the best sound outta placing subs in the drunk in which directions, but i have 2 12" JL W3's in an enclosed box. SHould i face it towards the front of the car or towards the back? Everyone tells me every other idea...anywho...some input would be cool...thanx!

yea reason is cuz the sound waves hits ur trunk and bounces off back 2 the front. when u have them faced in front of the car it doesn't bounce of nothing.

It depends on alot of stuff... I've found that in my car, they sound the best facing away from the driver. Try it both ways before you permanently anchor the box. Do whatever sounds best to you.

In my opinion, it truly doesn't make a difference... bass notes should not sound as if they're coming from any direction in particular, so pointing the subs doesn't make much of a difference.... However, if you think about the trunk as a container for air that could potentially carry sound, it would make more sense to point them toward the back.... but if you want your passengers to feel the bass in dat ass, point them forward ;)

actually, bass should sound louder facing towards the trunk, and tighter facing the cabin.
the reason is, is that when facing the rear, it takes longer to get to the driver's ears, and as the sound waves travel further, they grow larger.

In 90% of situations the subs are placed in the trunk facing the rear of the car. This is done to lessen the chance of cancellation problems. Or when a sound wave is in effect absorbing another wave and canceling each other out. All vehicles are different. Try them both ways, which ever sounds best to you is all that matters. Also Dynamat that trunk, which lesssens the chance for cancelation and standing waves even better. It doesn't really matter, the difference is so small that you'll probably won't be able to tell. Plus every car model has a different shape, so that affects it too. Do what correctu said and see what you like best.

Actually, the difference is quite significant. Just try it out for yourself. Of course, if your box is too big to practically try it both ways, just make the speakers rear facing the first time, as long as you're going for loud.

i kn ow i dont got an accord but... i got 2 12"s in an enclosed box... face the front when i would pop the trunk it would get 1 - 2 times louder and better sound quality... so i turned them around facing the back... now it sounds like it did with my trunk open... only its closed... so i noticed a big difference in my civic...
just my $0.02 :D

yah...i personally am for the rear facing cause there is a difference...it is louder (in most cases) facing back. Try both ways...wont hurt...and u will get the sound that you want.
they look a hell of a lot cooler mounted nicely facing forward...

there was actually a article about this subject in Car Audio. not going to make and opinion on which way to face the subs but in this article it stated in theory the subs will be loudest when placed in the far back of the trunk facing forward..and since that just isnt cool or practical not to many ppl actually do it.
